We also supply customers with the tools and accessories to complete the job including floor preparation, underlay, tools, accessories and levelling compounds. 

This is all underpinned by a large stock holding in our Leeds warehouse and an in-house distribution fleet, enabling first-class customer service and responsive delivery. Mercado is the partner of choice for so many customers across the retail and contracting sector. 

Our Sales team provide quality, choice and availability to Retailers & Contractors nationally. This role fits within out Northern Sales team and specifically covers the BB, HX, BD & HG postcodes

And what’s more, we are part of the growing, successful Headlam Group – Europe’s biggest Floor Covering Distributor offering additional commercial, product, systems and supply chain strength and support to the Mercado business.

 

About the Role

We are looking for an Area Sales Manager to take on the well-established area and be the face of Mercado for the region. 

You will inherit a significant customer base of Independent Retailers and the goodwill and relationships enjoyed by Mercado. Whilst we have a strong and enviable reputation in the market today – there’s no room for complacency. The goal is to grow business with new and existing customers. 

As retail and market trends evolve, your role will be to keep at the forefront of those – spotting and leveraging opportunities to grow sales with existing products and customers; and proactively creating openings to list new products and bring new customers on board. 

You will have all the tools to do the job: the broadest and best floor covering ranges, great delivery and top class customer service. From there it’s down to you! You will need to leverage your commerciality, customer relationship skills, tenacity and drive to build and grow the area.

 

Specifically, you’ll be responsible for

  • Managing your area to deliver sales revenue targets. 
  • Building relationships with new and existing customers; advising and influencing them to grow flooring sales for both them and you. 
  • Cleverly utilising sampling and displays to introduce customers to new products and ranges and drive incremental sales. 
  • Managing customer pricing quotations and terms to reflect the complexity of products, price points, volumes and credit terms.

About You

We’re looking for a sales professional who shares our passion for the floor covering sector; its products and trends. You’ll need to have tenacity, enthusiasm and a can-do attitude to build both excitement and commitment from your customers. 

You’ll be organised, structured and conscientious in how you approach your territory, journey planning, reporting and follow-up activity. 

Being out on the road means you’ll need to be self-reliant and self-motivated, but also a great team player. We have a strong team ethos and encourage all colleagues to work together to provide the best experience for our customers.

In particular you’ll bring:

  • Sales success – in a retail, wholesale or other customer-facing role. 
  • An impressive track record of driving sales via a consultative-selling approach. 
  • You’ll ideally have some experience in a floor coverings, soft furnishings, DIY, construction or home-related sector. 
  • Strong organisation skills and experience of working with CRM or similar systems. 
  • A strong work ethic and a passion for exploring new opportunities to build business with your customers.  
  •  A full, clean Driving Licence.
